Can I work at home? You bet!

Today I’m going to discuss a pretty basic fact about working from home. It’s the fact that technology makes it easier than it’s ever been to earn an income online.

“Can I work at home?” you’re wondering. “Can I make money online?”

Money. We all need it, right? Just a basic fact of life, and it’s the reason why you’re here reading my blog right now.

I answer that yes, anyone can do this.

Everyone has some skill or knowledge, or is capable of gaining some skill or knowledge that they can share online in the form of a business.

Perhaps not everyone chooses to pursue this type of lifestyle, but anyone who is interested in working over the internet, and from home, can do it.

The Internet Is Amazing !

You do have to have the Internet at home for most types of work from home, but most people do already in the United States and other developed nations.

If you live in a place where there is no Internet availability at home, rest assured that it is coming soon. If you haven’t heard of 5G Internet, look it up.

Even without the Internet, you can write articles and prepare what you need, and then go to a place that does have Internet. Wi-Fi hotspots, we usually call them.

Most major stores now have WiFi networks for their customers to use. McDonalds’ restaurants have it, as do most hotels and libraries. Chances are good that somewhere near you is a place that you can reliably connect to the Internet.

Most of the world’s collected knowledge from thousands of years is available on the Internet, a lot of it for free. So if you’re interested in learning about a topic, you can find the information Online.

Most people also have cell phones nowadays. Even if you don’t have a smart-phone, or a home Internet connection, you can probably get a “dumb phone” and have a data connection through your phone. On some cell phone plans, you get charged a fee for every web page you access, so I don’t recommend this long-term if you’re working on a business, but it is possible to do this for a short while until you can get better access.

You Can Work Online Even When Sick

I know this for a fact. I’m sick right now as I write this.

I feel JUST LIKE this guy.

I don’t have much strength, but it doesn’t take much to sit in a chair and type on a computer. Now there are limitations – I’m not writing an article today that requires a lot of research, and I wouldn’t be writing if I had a big headache, but if you’re sick, like me, or if you’re just in poor health generally, you can still do this.

That’s one of the main reasons why this is so popular. You don’t have to call in sick when you work from home – but you can schedule your work as you need to arrange it, so it’s no problem.

But I’m Not Good At Anything!?

I didn’t enjoy typing that. I don’t want people to think I’m saying that, and it pains me that some people might seriously think that.

I do believe that everyone has some talent. Some of us just haven’t discovered it yet.

You might be good at teaching, good at being patient, or listening, or good at math, or musically gifted (that’s one of the more visible ones, which I confess to being “afflicted with”).

Or perhaps you just can’t think of anything you’re good at. You might be good at telling stories – this is super for online work as there is a lot of storytelling in sales.

I’m not going to be able to list every possible talent that you might have.

The point is, you don’t have to be a genius to make working online into a successful business. You can work with the interests and abilities you have to get a nice sideline going, and eventually, if you stick with it, you can make enough to quit your day job and go full-time.

This is my dream, of course, but I want to help you achieve it too.

Other Objections

I know I haven’t covered every possible objection or concern about working online, from home. For instance, you may be too poor to spend any time working to build a business. I definitely

“heart” that!

I don’t mean I love it, but I get it, I understand. I had three jobs myself at one time.

If you’re working two or three jobs just to make ends meet, financially, then I would admit, yes, you probably don’t have the time right now to devote to a business. Or if you have a medical condition that requires you to sleep twelve hours or more a day, or you have little crying children demanding your attention all day. Okay, these are all valid concerns. Maybe you can’t devote time to a business RIGHT NOW, but I hope you will work to find the time later on.

On the other hand, and I don’t mean to be dismissive, as a non-parent, but I’ve heard lots of stories of successful businesswomen who are mothers and started their business in just the short respite time they had when their kids were napping. I’m not recommending it, I’m not saying it won’t be tough. What I am saying is that if you really want to do an online business, you can find a way.

If you’re working multiple jobs, you may have to make some big decisions and make other changes in your life in order to have the time. I’m not guaranteeing you can do it right now, but you are in charge of your life. You have to decide if you want to still be living that way in a year, or 5 or 10 years.

If you watch Netflix for five hours a day, you have no right to complain if you haven’t made any headway with building a business. So just look at how you’re spending your time, and evaluate what your priorities are. That’s all I’m asking.

If there are medical issues – that’s something you’ll have to work out with your doctor. But I hope I’ve made the point that it’s your desire and dedication that is important, not whatever circumstances you might be under.

Can You Work From Home? Absolutely!

I’m convinced of it. Economically, all kinds of changes are coming, and this seems like one of the best options out there. I’m hoping I’ve convinced you that this is possible. I haven’t even gotten into disease threats, or automation replacing a lot of jobs soon in retail and other sectors of the economy where a lot of people work now. But yes, I do believe anyone can do this.

That doesn’t mean our economy would work if everyone was working online. But that’s not the choice you have to make. You have to decide, “Am I going to take advantage of the wonderful opportunities available now and start a job or business online?”

You can only decide for yourself, not for everyone. I decided to write a blog post while “sick as a dog”. What will you decide?

I hope you will join me in this journey. At times, it will be like hiking up a mountain, but it is a quest that we are on together.

Along the way, we will get into the methods of establishing successful businesses. Stay tuned for more.

  1. Hi Bryce,

Yes, we fully agree that the Internet is amazing. It has opened opportunities for anyone who would like to work from home or start a home-based / online business. The technology is open for anyone interested in leveraging.

The other beauty of working from home or starting a business online is that you do not need physical strength. As you mentioned, you can even do it even if you are sick. In fact, we have been telling our friends that starting an online business (i.e. a blog) is part of our “anti-dementia” plan.

And you will definitely not run out of ideas for your online post provided you select an area/niche that you like or are passionate about.

    Keep it up!
